Welcome to the Border Mountains

Border Mountains

Experience Untamed Adventure

The Border Mountains region, following the New South Wales and Queensland border, is unlike anywhere else on Earth.

It owes its distinctive character to a volcanic upheaval 24 million years ago. This earth shaking eruption of the Focal Peak Shield Volcano forged the spectacular terrain we now know as the Border Mountains.

From the granite tors and remnant volcanic peaks that dot the landscapes, to the streams and creeks that form the headwaters of the mighty Clarence River – the Border Mountains offers untamed adventure.

Visitors will revel in a region that offers a diverse mix of villages, country pubs, farm stays, bush accommodation, camping and glamping. Explore World Heritage Rainforests, waterfalls and national parks. If you’re after more adventure, enjoy mountain biking, 4WDing, bushwalking and canoeing.

While in the area, the Border Mountains Tourist Drive is a must do. Starting at the Border Gate, this stunning scenic drive winds its way through Woodenbong, Urbenville, Tooloom National Park, Legume and finishes in Liston. Must-stops include Tooloom Falls, Tooloom Lookout, the historic bridge over Koreelah Creek and Acacia Creek Lookout.

Leave the maddening crowd behind and immerse yourself in this unique part of the world, where nature reigns supreme.
