MZAZA free world music workshops

Inviting musicians of all ages to participate in our free workshops! No knowledge of foreign languages or experience in playing world music required. We welcome musicians of all abilities.
We invite you to perform a song with us during our concert on Sat 22 Oct at Harrigans Lane!

There are two workshops available:

Youth (aged 7-17) | 4-5pm Fri 21 Oct

Learn a fun French pop song and an ancient Ladino song. Born in France and of Sephardic heritage, the award-winning lead singer of MZAZA Pauline Maudy will facilitate an uplifting vocal workshop for beginners and experienced singers aimed at sharing technique and getting you singing quickly. If you play an instrument bring it along and John Robertson (on nylon string guitar), Greta Kelly on violin and shah kaman (Persian spike-fiddle), and Malindi Morris (darabuka and cajon) will teach you some Balkan beats and tunes which demonstrate some of the unusual rhythms and ornaments of world music. No need to be able to read music.

Adults | 6-7pm Fri 21 Oct

Embark on a musical journey through the poetic and melodic world of French and Jewish-Spanish music and explore words in ancient languages. If you play an instrument bring it along and John Robertson (on guitar), Greta Kelly on violin and shah kaman (Persian spike-fiddle), and Malindi Morris (darabuka and cajon) will teach you some of the unusual rhythms and ornaments of the Balkans.
